Trafalgar man faces shoplifting, drug charges

COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Johnson County man was arrested on multiple charges Friday evening after he reportedly stole items from a Columbus store and attempted to flee from Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers. Law enforcement responded to the eastside Walmart, at 735 Whitfield Drive, at around 7:15 p.m., in regards to a possible shoplifter inside the store. The suspect, later identified as Dustin E. Howard, 31, of Trafalgar, attempted to exit the store when he was confronted by officers. The man fled from CPD, however, he was located a short time later and taken into custody. While searching him, the officers allegedly recovered stolen merchandise from the store as well as a small amount of methamphetamine. Howard was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement, theft, and possession of methamphetamine.
