Accident to cause delays on I-65 and State Road 11

Indiana State Plice, with the assistance from Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputies and CPD, are working a vehicle crash involving a person being struck at the 58 mile marker Southbound on I-65. Traffic had been redirected from Southbound 1-65 to at the 64 mile marker to St Rd 11 for some time. As this is being released, both southbound I 65 lanes have been reopened, but expect some delays on I – 65 north of accident and on St Rd 11.

Auto-pedestrian accident claims life on I-65

COLUMBUS, Ind. The Bartholomew County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a female pedestrian who was struck and killed by a semi early this morning. The incident occurred Monday in the construction zone on Interstate 65, just north of the Bartholomew-Jackson county line, near mile-marker 58, at around 3:45 a.m. Bartholomew Coroner Clayton Nolting was called to the scene, where he pronounced that the woman died from blunt force trauma. Nolting stated the car the female is believed to have occupied was apparently southbound before it became stuck in a muddy area in the median of I-65. The crash is being investigated by Indiana State Police. The woman's identity will be released once next of kin has been notified, Nolting said.

Vehicle strikes young child

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of Continental Drive, in Heritage Heights trailer park, on Tuesday around 6:45 p.m., after a report of an injury-related accident where a car hit a pedestrian. The male juvenile pedestrian was approximately five years old and he sustained serious injuries. The young boy was transported by Lifeline medical helicopter to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a juvenile female of about 16 years. The area of the accident scene was closed to traffic for several hours while the initial investigation was being completed. The inquiry to determine the cause of the mishap is ongoing. Indiana State Police, the Columbus Police Department, and Lifeline assisted the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.
