Johnson County Council Approves Transfer To Expand Horse Arena

A representative of the Johnson County Park and Recreation (JCPR) met with the Johnson County Council on Monday regarding their proposed salary ordinance transfer. Assistant superintendent, Kevin Leonard, explained to the council that the JCPR was looking to transfer a total of $25,000,00 from the group’s Gift Fund to their Building and Land Improvement fund.

Leonard reported that the funds would be utilized in expanding one of three horse arenas on the property. Before Monday, the arena in question was small and was mostly used for warm ups, while the other two were big enough for competitions. The group wants to expand the last arena for later use in competition while adding some additional footing to the first two.

Leonard also reported that several local horse riding groups would be willing to donate money to both the project and replenish the gift fund. County Council approved the ordinance as it was presented and the JCPR was more than ready to get started after this decision.
